Eligibility for Driver’s Licenses

QUESTION

Do you approve of a law summarized below, which

 was approved by the House of Representatives and 

the Senate on May 26, 2022?  

 

PLEASE, VOTE YES

WHY WE SHOULD VOTE YES

 

1)    Today, by Law, undocumented immigrants can buy and register a car.

2)    They can get an ITIN – Individual Tax Identification Number to pay their income tax

3)    They pay sale taxes when they fill up their car tanks.

4)    They work and they can buy almost everything as documented people do and of course pay taxes, social security included even if they are self-employed, in fact they pay all other taxes, state and local.

5)    They register their children in schools and bring them to their school locations, or the city buses bring then too, they go to church, they go shopping, they are moving all over the country back and forth.

6)    With ITIN Numbers they can even start a new corporation and hire documented people to work for them. They can thrive economically and even buy a house, a building, a factory, a shop and move the economy with a great measure.

7)    They clean America houses as cleaners, they build houses as carpenters, painters, siders, remodelers, etc. They perform all kind of work; they are very good performing all jobs you can think of.

8)    The only think they distinct themselves of any American or naturalized citizen is that Congress didn't pass yet a LAW to make them LEGAL.

9)    If I would find a door opened to the America Dream and to Freedom, why I would not hesitate to come here. Imagine. This is the land of all dreams.

10) Immigrants are not criminal, law breakers. The percentage of criminals are practically all the same in all spheres of society according to their economy levels. It is true that are practically very few options for someone to come here through a Visa. There are no visas for carpenters, painters, house cleaners, waiters, busboys, dish washers, farmers, you name any of basic jobs, there are no visas for them.

11) In fact, America hires and love to hire undocumented people. That is the only reason 30 million of them are here today working, studying, serving their communities, going to church, raising their children, and enjoying their lives.

12) Why should they not get a driver's license?

 

SUMMARY OF THE LAW

This law allows Massachusetts residents who cannot provide proof of lawful presence in the United States to obtain a standard driver’s license or learner’s permit if they meet all the other qualifications for a standard license or learner’s permit, including a road test and insurance, and provide proof of their identity, date of birth, and residency. The law provides that, when processing an application for such a license or learner’s permit or motor vehicle registration, the registrar of motor vehicles may not ask about or create a record of the citizenship or immigration status of the applicant, except as otherwise required by law. This law does not allow people who cannot provide proof of lawful presence in the United States to obtain a REAL ID.

 

The law also requires the registrar and the Secretary of the

 Commonwealth to establish procedures and regulations to

 ensure that an applicant for a standard driver’s license or 

learner’s permit who does not provide proof of lawful presence 

will not be automatically registered to vote.

 

The law takes effect on July 1, 2023.
